2.8 Milltek Exhaust...
Hey guys
I have an 01 30V 2.8 and want to redo my exhaust. Do you know if Milltek makes a specific exhaust system just for the 2.8's?
If not, do they make universal performance mufflers? According to their site, theres not too much information so let me know what you guys are running.
TIA

Go custom but your going to need a resonator or its going to drone like a mofo

Milltek is pricey. I have a Milltek on my 1.8t, but was not willing to pay Milltek money for it. I hawked FS ads and forums for months (7 or so) and scored one for $500 shipped. I would suggest you go the custom route.

Well as far as custom goes, how should I do it to get a good V6 growl when I gas it but little to no drone when Im on the highway?

Thicker piping and quality resonators. What is the size to the inlet of your Magnaflow? I would personally go the cheap route and have a shop custom fab mandrel bend piping the same size as the Magnaflow inlet. Replace the stock cat converters with Magnaflow units and add some resonators (not sure if the 2.8 has 1 or 2 stock resonators) in there. Drone would really depend upon quality of the steel piping and gauge of the piping. I would also look into having the stock dp replaced with a custom one.

Take it from someone who has had multiple custom exhaust setups on his 2.8, just put and aftermarket muffler on and you'll be happy. The stock exhaust is tuned to give you the perfect amount of back pressure to give you the most out of the engine. With any high flow muffler/cat or even bigger piping, you might gain a few hp on the top end but you'll lose a lot of low end torque. trust me, i had a no cat setup with 2.5" piping to a magnaflow muffler and you wouldn't believe how little torque there was.

Good point. So just a quality aftermarket muffler would keep balance in pressure in the exhaust system?

Miltek does offer a cat back exhaust for the 2.8. Every once in a while a used one will pop up in the classifieds. It is by far the best exhaust for the 2.8. Not too loud or too quiet. I have gotten numerous compliments on mine from all sorts of audi enthusiasts.

You probably have the "unresonated" version that has straight through mufflers, The "resonated" version has baffles in the mufflers making it quieter
